Testing Situations

Every Workplace Testing

Situation Covered

A complete employer testing program covers six specific situations. We manage all of them including emergency and after-hours collections at any hour.

Pre-Employment Testing

Required before a new hire begins safety-sensitive duties. We coordinate with your HR team and conduct testing at your office or the candidate’s location before their start date. Fast turnaround helps keep hiring moving and ensures workplace safety.

Random Drug Testing

Federally mandated for DOT employers strongly recommended for all. We manage your random selection pool, notify your HR team when an employee is selected, and dispatch a collector same-day. You never have to worry about missing a testing cycle.

Post-Accident Testing

When a workplace incident occurs, fast testing protects your business legally and demonstrates due diligence. We are on-call 24/7 and respond immediately DOT post-accident time windows are strict and we take them seriously.

Reasonable Suspicion Testing

When a supervisor observes signs of impairment, testing must happen quickly and correctly. We respond promptly and discreetly protecting your program's integrity and your workplace's safety.

Return-to-Duty Testing

Before an employee who violated your drug policy can return to work, a verified negative test is required. We coordinate directly with your Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

Follow-Up Testing

After a return-to-duty test, unannounced follow-up testing is required for a specified period. We manage scheduling, selections, and collector dispatch to keep your program compliant.

Employer Program Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a formal drug testing program for my business?

If you are a DOT-regulated employer with safety-sensitive employees, yes — a formal program is federally required. For non-regulated businesses, it is not legally mandatory but strongly recommended. A properly documented program protects your business from liability and creates a safer workplace.

What is the difference between a DOT and Non-DOT employer program?

A DOT program is federally mandated for regulated industries — CDL drivers, aviation, transit, railroad, pipeline, and maritime workers. It must follow strict federal protocols under 49 CFR Part 40. A Non-DOT program is employer-designed for all other businesses. Both use certified collectors and SAMHSA labs — the difference is the regulatory framework.

How does random testing selection work?

For DOT programs, we manage your random pool and conduct draws at the federally required annual rates — currently 50% for drug testing and 10% for alcohol testing under FMCSA. For Non-DOT programs, we work with you to set the selection rate and manage the draws. When an employee is selected, we notify your HR team and dispatch a collector.

What happens if an employee tests positive?

For DOT programs, the employee is immediately removed from safety-sensitive duties and must complete a return-to-duty process with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) before resuming work. For Non-DOT programs, the response is governed by your company's written drug policy. We provide all documentation needed for your HR process.

How quickly can you respond for post-accident testing?

We are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For DOT post-accident situations, we prioritize immediate dispatch — alcohol testing must occur within 8 hours and drug testing within 32 hours of a qualifying accident. We take those deadlines seriously.
